About the series
What it is
JS is a series of micro circular subsea connectors for equipment that works in water under pressure: underwater cameras and lights, communication systems, underwater robots and vehicles, oceanographic instruments, offshore production equipment. The plug is cable-mounted; the receptacle is straight or right-angle on a 7/16-20 UNF thread (2–8 contacts) or 1/2-20 UNF thread (10–16 contacts) with a nut and washer for the instrument bulkhead. The pair is held by a locking sleeve. The open face of the receptacle is rated 7 MPa, so the connector can be mated and de-mated under water; mating under electrical load is agreed per version when ordering.
Versions and designation
A designation such as JS-2TKWS-0.6 reads field by field: number of contacts (2…16), T — plug or Z — receptacle, K — socket contacts or J — pin contacts, W — right-angle receptacle (no letter — straight), housing material S — stainless steel (no letter — naval brass, P — PEEK, Ti — titanium), cable length in metres (default 0.6 m for the plug and 0.3 m for the receptacle, 00 — dummy plug). Bodies Ø15.5 mm for 2–8 contacts and Ø25 mm for 10–16 contacts. Pin and socket dummy plugs, locking sleeves, nuts and washers and a cable tail with strain relief are ordered from the same table.
Ratings
Current per contact 10 A for 2–4 contacts and 5 A for 5–16 contacts, up to 20 A in total (up to 30 A for 10–16 contacts), rated voltage 300 V, test voltage 1500 V, insulation resistance at least 200 MΩ. Working depth 7000 m: 70 MPa mated and 7 MPa open face. Temperature −4…+60 °C, vibration 10–500 Hz at 100 m/s², shock 500 m/s², at least 500 mating cycles.
What it replaces
According to the manufacturer the series is interchangeable with the standard micro circular subsea series of SubConn (MacArtney) and SEACON with the same number of contacts: the mating interface and the receptacle mounting dimensions match. Send the original designation and we will return the JS version with the same contacts, receptacle type and cable length.
Part numbers
Part numbers of this series are configured to order — send the required configuration through the quotation form.
Questions and answers
What depth is the JS series rated for?
7000 m: 70 MPa mated and 7 MPa on the open face of the receptacle.
Can the connector be mated under water?
The open face withstands 7 MPa, so mating and de-mating under water are allowed. Mating under electrical load is agreed per version when ordering.
How do I read JS-2TKWS-0.6?
2 contacts, T — plug, K — socket contacts, W — right-angle receptacle, S — stainless steel, 0.6 — cable length 0.6 m. Without a material letter the housing is naval brass, P is PEEK, Ti is titanium.
How does JS differ from JSB?
JS has micro bodies Ø15.5 and Ø25 mm for 2–16 contacts, 300 V and a 7000 m depth. JSB has standard-size bodies Ø25…46.5 mm for 2–25 contacts, 600 V and a 14 000 m depth.
Which originals does JS replace?
According to the manufacturer — the standard micro circular series of SubConn (MacArtney) and SEACON with the same number of contacts. The check is made by the number of contacts, receptacle type and housing material.
What housing materials are available?
Stainless steel, naval brass, PEEK or titanium — the material is set by a letter in the designation.
