About the series
What it is
JSB is a series of standard-size circular subsea connectors for deep-water equipment: vehicles and robots, seabed stations, underwater lights and cameras, communication systems, offshore production equipment. It is the larger range next to the micro JS series: more contacts, higher voltage and current, working depth up to 14 000 m. The open face of the receptacle is rated 7 MPa, so the pair can be mated and de-mated under water; mating under electrical load is agreed per version when ordering.
Versions and designation
The designation is built like JS: JSB-2TKWS-0.6 — number of contacts (2…25), T — plug or Z — receptacle, K — socket contacts or J — pin contacts, W — right-angle receptacle, housing material (S — stainless steel, no letter — naval brass, P — PEEK, Ti — titanium), cable length in metres. Bodies: Ø25 mm for 2–5 contacts (receptacle thread 7/16-20 UNF), Ø31 mm for 6–10 contacts (5/8-18 UNF), Ø40.5/46.5 mm for 12–25 contacts (3/4-16 UNF); short 12-contact receptacles with a 5/8-18 UNF thread are available. Dummy plugs, locking sleeves, nuts and washers are separate items.
Ratings
10 A per contact: up to 30 A in total for 2–5 contacts, up to 50 A for 6–10 and up to 60 A for 12–25 contacts (the 25-contact version has 22 signal contacts rated 5 A). Rated voltage 600 V, test voltage 2500 V, insulation resistance at least 200 MΩ. Depth 14 000 m: 140 MPa mated and 7 MPa open face. Temperature −4…+60 °C, vibration 10–500 Hz at 100 m/s², shock 500 m/s², at least 500 mating cycles.
What it replaces
According to the manufacturer the series is interchangeable with the standard circular subsea series of SubConn (MacArtney) and SEACON with the same number of contacts. Selection by the number of contacts, part type (plug, straight or right-angle receptacle), housing material and cable length.
Part numbers
Part numbers of this series are configured to order — send the required configuration through the quotation form.
Questions and answers
What depth is the JSB series rated for?
14 000 m: 140 MPa mated and 7 MPa on the open face of the receptacle.
How does JSB differ from JS?
In size and ratings: bodies Ø25…46.5 mm instead of Ø15.5…25 mm, up to 25 contacts instead of 16, 600 V instead of 300 V, 10 A on every contact and a 14 000 m depth instead of 7000 m.
What total current is allowed?
Up to 30 A for 2–5 contacts, up to 50 A for 6–10 and up to 60 A for 12–25 contacts. In the 25-contact version 22 signal contacts are rated 5 A.
What thread do the receptacles have and what bulkhead hole is needed?
7/16-20 UNF for 2–5 contacts, 5/8-18 UNF for 6–10 contacts and short 12-contact receptacles, 3/4-16 UNF for 12–25 contacts. Hole dimensions for each range are given in the series datasheet.
Which originals does JSB replace?
According to the manufacturer — the standard circular subsea series of SubConn (MacArtney) and SEACON with the same number of contacts. Selection by the number of contacts, part type, housing material and cable length.
